Max Factor, Maybelline, Revlon, L’Oreal, Lancome and Covergirl…what do you think of when you hear these brand names. MAKE-UP! These are the most vocal make-up brands in the world. We see their faces on the run-way, in magazines and on commercials, but yet a large amount of the women all over the world choose to “M.A.C. it up”. I have been using M.A.C. Cosmetics (owned by Estée Lauder) since I was 22 and the looks you can achieve with this make-up are astounding. Now….applying make-up truly is an art form. M.A.C. keeps their product current often by releasing new products as well as discontinuing products they’ve already released due to the fact that faces change, complexions change and the women/men who wear the make-up change.
Barbie Loves M.A.C. is the newest line released by M.A.C. Cosmetics and a stampede of frantically charged women flooded their nearest M.A.C. store and online market to be the first of soon to be millions of women to flaunt the Barbie look. Barbie loves M.A.C. made its debut on February 13th and on February 13th at 9:45AM a young make-up whore went to her local M.A.C. store (I took an early lunch, the store opens at 9:00am) which is two Philadelphia city blocks from her job; to purchase her Barbie loves M.A.C. personal supply. I’ve built somewhat of a close relationship with one or more of the M.A.C. employees as I buy at least $130 worth of make-up once a week, so when I walked in I was sure they had one of everything set aside for me. I asked my main helper (let’s call him “Tom” for privacy purposes) for a Barbie loves MAC eye shadow in the “Playful” shade. I was told that they were sold out and I could be put on the waiting list for that particular eye shadow. There’s a waiting list for “Playful” eye shadow and if I were to want a shadow in another shade I would have to be put on a separate waiting list for that shadow as well. Wait…WHAT!!!! Stop the presses…a waiting list?!?! I grabbed Tom by the collar and said “Tom, you knew I’d be in why didn’t you set anything aside!” He said, “I know, I tried, but we were just so overwhelmed and people started offering more than the purchase price for the products, so we had to sell what we were holding for you” I gave him a look of disgust and failure. The make-up whore I thought he once was had been reduced to a mere M.A.C. employee in the matter if 10 seconds. I dropped my head in sadness and walked out of the store without doing my normal rounds of hellos and goodbyes. When I returned to my office I got online to see if I could purchase a few “can’t live without” colors from the online store. I am more than against making purchases online unless it is absolutely necessary and that day it was ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY! I got online and to my dismay, they were sold out as well, in every single color. What a disappointment.
It is now February 28th and Barbie Loves M.A.C. has been on sale for 16 days. I went to my local store and still no eye shadow in the “Playful” shade. I looked online again and was greeted by a “SOLD OUT” message next the…you guessed it….the eye shadow in the “Playful” shade. I’m normally a playful kind of girl, but not today, no today I’m still saddened by the fact that M.A.C. knows they have millions of customers, but didn’t think it was important enough to make more eye shadows to accommodate the people who show up at the store 45 minutes after opening time. I’ll be a M.A.C. Make-Up whore until my face will no longer accept make-up, but I was let down this week. I’m sure my mood will change as soon as I get my “Playful” shade of eye shadow, but until that time I’m holding the grudge.
That’s all for today my fellow fashion whores….until next time!
